David Kevin Lamb, Director Emeritus of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in Music Education and Music Management.
Dr. Lamb is known for his distinguished career in music education and performance, spanning five decades. Now recognized as a director emeritus by Trinity United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Indiana, since 2025, he retired as the congregation’s director of music after more than a decade in his position. Despite his retirement, Dr. Lamb continues to be involved at the church while he works on completing several ongoing projects.
During his tenure as the director, Dr. Lamb oversaw the chancel and handbell choirs, planned worship services, conducted hymn services and led community theater performances. His leadership at Trinity United Methodist Church began in 2014, where he quickly became recognized for his expertise in musical presentations and his commitment to fostering musical excellence within the congregation.
Before his tenure at Trinity United Methodist Church, Dr. Lamb contributed significantly to public school music education for nearly 20 years. During this period, he taught choir and music theory in grades six through 12, and later focused on high school students while supervising elementary music programs. Dr. Lamb also taught as an associate instructor in choral conducting for two years and served as an assistant director of the Singing Hoosiers, a renowned collegiate show choir, while pursuing his doctorate at Indiana University.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Lamb’s work as a dedicated church musician dates back to 1975. He has played the organ for church services for nearly five decades and is planning a celebration to mark this significant contribution. Dr. Lamb has also taken a leadership role in dramatic productions, collaborating with others to ensure their success. Notably, he performed Handel’s Messiah multiple times for the community through the Jennie Gebhart Hedden Music Study Club.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lamb has achieved numerous other milestones that underscore his expertise in musical presentations. He has conducted concerts in Europe and directed 50 musicals between 1983 and 2004, often managing two or three productions annually for both community theater groups and high schools. Dr. Lamb’s journey as a director began at age 18 when he initiated his first musical with the local parks department following his first year of college. Beyond directing, he has also mentored talented male voice students, some of whom have earned full scholarships through his guidance.
Highly educated, Dr. Lamb earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in music education from the University of Oregon in Eugene. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Music Education from Indiana University Bloomington.
Dr. Lamb’s professional affiliations reflect his commitment to advancing the field of music education and performance. He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Reed Organ Society, the American Theatre Organ Society, Inc., and, among others, the National Association for Music Education. Previously, he served as a national officer and member of the board of directors of the American Guild of Organists for nearly a decade. Civically, Dr. Lamb is active with the University of Oregon Alumni Association.
In light of his success, Dr. Lamb received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in 2003. Grateful to his parents for encouraging him to pursue piano lessons from age 6, he quickly developed proficiency as a young musician. Early experiences attending church services, where he admired skilled organists, and his formative years singing in high school choirs, also fueled Dr. Lamb’s passion for music ministry and his desire to work with young people and share the joy of music.
