Dr. Mastrogiannis, distinguished for his expertise in obstetrics, gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine, has earned a reputation for excellence at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York, since 1997 as the director of maternal-fetal medicine. He has also been instrumental at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University as a clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive services since 2017. Leveraging decades of success in his career, Dr. Mastrogiannis held various other leading positions with other notable medical and educational facilities, including chief of maternal-fetal medicine at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, between 2019 and 2023, as a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the college of osteopathic medicine at the New York Institute of Technology in New York City from 2017 to 2022, and as the system chair of maternal-fetal medicine at Catholic Health Services of Long Island between 2017 and 2019.
Possessing a diverse educational background, Dr. Mastrogiannis received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Patras in 1983, followed by a residency in internal medicine from LaGuardia Hospital from 1985 to 1983. Subsequently, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacology from the University Patras in 1989, served as the administrative chief resident at Nassau University Medical Center between 1988 and 1989, completed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of South Florida from 1989 to 1991, and a Master of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2008. In addition to his formal education, Dr. Mastrogiannis became a licensed physician in New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Florida and New Jersey, became board-certified in maternal and fetal medicine through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and completed several professional certification programs in support of his work.
Beyond his primary roles, Dr. Mastrogiannis has been active with numerous professional organizations, including as a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Hellenic Medical Association and as a founder of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He has also been instrumental in serving on several committees and with the Philadelphia Department of Health and the Illinois Department of Public Health. As a seasoned scholar, Dr. Mastrogiannis has contributed approximately 70 professional journal articles on various topics and has co-authored several other leading publications. He is presently penning a book about consultations in maternal-fetal medicine, which he aims to publish soon. In light of his medical tenure, Dr. Mastrogiannis has been honored with numerous awards, including the Doctor of the Year by WebMD every year since 2014 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Upstate Medical University in 2023. Most notably, he has seen more than 27,000 patients, successfully delivered over 4,000 babies, and holds the second-world record for the shortest interval between the delivery of the first and second twin.
