Walter C. Kaiser Jr., PhD, president emeritus and academic administrator at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in theological education.

Dr. Kaiser was inspired to pursue theological education as a result of his experience as a student. In 1955, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in the Bible and Greek from Wheaton College, which was followed with a Bachelor of Divinity in theological studies in 1958. In 1962, Dr. Kaiser earned a master’s degree in Mediterranean studies from Brandeis University. He proceeded to further his education once more by earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Mediterranean and Near Eastern studies in 1973. Dr. Kaiser’s multitude of degrees speaks to his passion for academics, which has since been the driving force behind many of his professional endeavors.

Dr. Kaiser began his career with a position as a Bible instructor and an assistant professor at Wheaton College in Illinois. He remained this position until 1966 when he held a number of titles at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, such as a professor, a vice president, an academic dean and a senior vice president until 1993. He subsequently accepted a position at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. During this time, he was active as the president and was designated with the title of Colman Mochler Professor of Old Testaments. Though he retired in 2005, Dr. Kaiser is affiliated with the aforementioned seminary as the president emeritus.

Alongside his primary pursuits, Dr. Kaiser is also an accomplished author. He has published over 40 texts relating to his studies, such as “Malachi: God’s Unchanging Love” from 1984, “Exodus: A Commentary” from 1990 and “Communicator’s Commentary: Micah to Malachi” from 1992. He continues to write today. He additionally contributes to his professional community through membership in the Near East Archaeological Society, the Society of Biblical Literature and the Institute of Biblical Research, among several other organizations. As a testament to his success, he is featured in the third edition of Who’s Who in American Education and the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Religion. Furthermore, Dr. Kaiser was honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
