A leader in education, Ms. Thomas Lamey has dedicated his career to positively impacting students, beginning in her home country of Jamaica and now in the United States. Since August 2025, she has been affiliated with the Iredell Charter Academy of Arts and Science, a tuition-free public charter school in Troutman, North Carolina, as an educator, professional learning community facilitator and instructional mentor. She also joined Charter Schools USA in 2025 as an English Language Arts (ELA) teacher, where she teaches students and serves as the artificial intelligence (AI) innovator for the entire school, specifically focusing on ELA. Additionally, Ms. Thomas Lamey mentors ELA and social studies teachers on different grade levels as well as seventh-grade teachers through workshops that teach them to use AI to generate questions and create lesson plans and slideshows, making lessons more interactive and enjoyable for students. Charter Schools USA has over 100 campuses across North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Louisiana.

From 2023 to 2025, Ms. Thomas Lamey served as an educator, teacher leader and new teacher mentor at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina. There, she was involved in teaching and curriculum development, while supporting colleagues and schoolwide initiatives.

Ms. Thomas Lamey began her career with the Ministry of Education of Jamaica from 2010 to 2023 before immigrating to the United States. Over more than a decade, she taught a variety of subjects and mentored teachers across numerous disciplines outside her department. Ms. Thomas Lamey’s commitment to equitable education was evident as she coached colleagues and supported students with diverse needs. Between 2012 and 2015, she also served as a librarian for the Ministry of Education of Jamaica.

A graduate of The Mico University College in Kingston, Jamaica, Ms. Thomas Lamey earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 2013. Her academic training laid the foundation for her success as an intentional educator who differentiates instruction for all learners, including those with exceptional children or 504 plans, ensuring inclusive educational experiences. Additionally, Ms. Thomas Lamey holds certifications in International Baccalaureate instruction and leadership.

Ms. Thomas Lamey’s civic involvement includes serving as a praise team member, speaker and volunteer for outreach programs, such as back-to-school drives with RWC Church of God of Prophecy. She derives a sense of satisfaction from giving back to her local community and beyond.

Recognized as an expert in ELA, AI integration and general science, Ms. Thomas Lamey earned the title of Educator for Military Personnel and received multiple awards, including Achievement Awards for End-of-Grade tests, a Principal Commendation for Leadership in Jamaica and commendations for school safety at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Ms. Thomas Lamey attributes her professional success to her passion for teaching, empathetic personality and ability to connect deeply with students.

Inspired by her second-grade teachers in Jamaica and encouraged by her mother’s determination, Ms. Thomas Lamey has always aspired to make a difference in education. Looking ahead, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in educational leadership with aspirations of becoming a school principal. Her goals also include continually inspiring children to pursue their interests wholeheartedly while fostering environments where every child can learn and thrive.
