Ms. Elbrecht’s distinguished career spans nearly four decades, marked by her expertise in English language arts, elementary education, K-12 instruction and writing. Her journey in the field began with a profound interest in journalism and literature, which inspired her to pursue a vocation as an English teacher. After completing her studies in her early 20s, Ms. Elbrecht quickly transitioned into student teaching and secured full-time positions that allowed her to apply her passion for both fiction and nonfiction writing in classroom settings.
Since 2016, Ms. Elbrecht has served as an educator at E.S.S., where she maintains classroom management, collaborates with administration and fellow teachers, delivers diverse lesson plans and integrates technology platforms into daily instruction. She is committed to student safety and engagement, consistently interacting with children to foster a supportive learning environment. Ms. Elbrecht’s creative approach to lesson planning distinguishes her within the profession. She is known for designing captivating lessons that “hook” students from the outset, a critical skill in her state’s educational landscape.
Ms. Elbrecht has taught sixth through eighth grade English and social studies, integrating subjects to enhance student learning. She also contributed as a high school placement test instructor, helping students achieve graduation requirements. Her adaptability allows her to connect with learners of varying abilities and backgrounds, making her a valuable asset to the field. Outside the classroom, Ms. Elbrecht has coached middle school track teams, including one that reached All-Star status, supported track cheerleading programs and acted as an assistant swim coach at Saint John Vianney High School.
Apart from her work in education, Ms. Elbrecht has excelled as a personal trainer and educator at VJE Personal Training for more than 25 years, since 1999. In this capacity, she has provided personal training services focused on functional flexibility, strength training, and group fitness while also consulting on nutrition and wellness topics. Ms. Elbrecht’s experience includes serving as a spinning instructor and working with Bentley Benefits to assist individuals with geriatric issues related to exercise resumption.
Ms. Elbrecht’s academic background has been instrumental in shaping her professional accomplishments. She earned an associate degree in liberal arts from Ocean County College in 1989, a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in education from Georgian Court University in 1993 and 2000, respectively, a Bachelor of Arts in dramatics and theatre arts from the Screen Actors Guild in 2017, and a Master of Education in English from Teachers College at Columbia University in 2016. These credentials have provided a strong foundation for her teaching philosophy and curriculum development skills.
Beyond her degrees, Ms. Elbrecht’s versatility as an educator is further demonstrated by her dual certification, enabling her to teach across grade levels and support students with disabilities. She holds a New Jersey instructional certificate issued by the State of New Jersey, as well as a state standard supervision certificate, qualifying her for supervisory roles. Among numerous other qualifications, she completed courses through Coursera in search engine optimization with Squarespace, in constructing stock market indices, and in business analysis and process management, as well as foundations of digital marketing and e-commerce through Google. With respect to health and wellness, Ms. Elbrecht is a certified instructor and consultant in aerobics, nutrition, and wellness from the American Aerobic Association International/International Sports Medicine Association and is a certified personal trainer from WITS.
Ms. Elbrecht’s technological proficiency is evident through her participation in professional development opportunities, such as TechStock and conventions hosted by the National Education Association and the National Governors Association in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Her commitment to ongoing professional growth is further reflected in her attendance at numerous workshops, such as those led by Ralph Fletcher on writing techniques, and participation in junior literature programs that emphasize classical and contemporary works.
Throughout her career, Ms. Elbrecht has maintained active memberships in several professional organizations, including the National Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of English and the New Jersey Education Association. Meanwhile, her civic engagement extends into community service initiatives, such as volunteering with Lunch Break and Meals on Wheels NJ. Ms. Elbrecht also supports charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society, participates with Sandy Hookers Sports Club and the Jersey Shore Running Club, contributes to clothing drives benefiting the Voorhees, New Jersey, area and takes part in charity runs supporting women with breast cancer.
Ms. Elbrecht’s accolades reflect both professional excellence and extracurricular achievement. She received awards recognizing diversity and teaching excellence both within her township and beyond, and was published in the NJEA Quarterly Magazine for an article on teaching public speaking at the middle school level, a distinction earned through a contest submission. Ms. Elbrecht was also named Ocean County Running Club Female Athlete of the Year, received the S.E.A.S. Novice Cup Commodores Cup Trophy, and qualified for USAT Olympic-distance triathlons in 2013.
A lifelong learner who values patience and recognizes each individual’s unique strengths, Ms. Elbrecht credits much of her success to strong organizational skills, technological fluency and perseverance through challenges. Drawing inspiration from lessons learned through her parents’ and grandparents’ guidance, she is eager for the future of her career.
Looking ahead, Ms. Elbrecht intends to leverage her administrative certificate, earned through hybrid coursework, to pursue roles such as school administrator or athletic director while continuing to contribute meaningfully within E.S.S. She is also excited to explore new opportunities at both local and national levels that may involve curriculum development or English as a Second Language initiatives across diverse settings. Inspired by action research coursework and varied teaching experiences, Ms. Elbrecht also envisions launching a website or blog dedicated to sharing educational resources with colleagues nationwide.
