Christiana C. Nwachukwu, DNP, Senior Professor and Program Coordinator at CNJ Union College of Union County, New Jersey, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Nursing Education and Academic Administration.
Dr. Nwachukwu has established herself in nursing education and clinical practice, marked by more than 30 years of professional experience. Since 2010, she has been an integral member of the faculty at Union College of Union County in New Jersey, where her expertise and leadership have shaped the institution’s nursing program. In September 2025, Dr. Nwachukwu attained the rank of senior professor, the highest faculty distinction at the college, reflecting her extensive teaching background and subject matter mastery. She currently serves as both a senior professor and program coordinator, overseeing the smooth operation of the nursing program, administering curricula, guiding students through clinical experiences and ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the National Council Licensure Examination.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Nwachukwu has maintained active clinical practice as a registered nurse since 1996 and as a family nurse practitioner. She has also contributed as a nurse educator within the nursing faculty, providing classroom instruction and mentoring students in various clinical settings.
Dr. Nwachukwu’s commitment to academic excellence was previously demonstrated by her tenure as the program director at Union College of Union County from 2020 to 2022. During this period, she led the program through a critical reaccreditation process, resulting in two significant accreditations, one from the New Jersey Board of Nursing and another from the Council on Nursing Education Accreditation of the National League for Nursing. The latter was a voluntary pursuit that required meeting rigorous standards and was instrumental in removing the program from probationary status due to improved licensure outcomes. Dr. Nwachukwu’s consistent leadership was pivotal in achieving these milestones.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Nwachukwu served as the supervisor of nursing at Hudson Correctional Facility under the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in New York State for one year. She also excelled as a nurse at a long-term care facility for veterans in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
Dr. Nwachukwu’s expertise encompasses nursing, family nurse practitioner practice, family education and program administration. She is recognized for her dedication to professional development and networking, which she views as essential for growth and knowledge exchange within her field.
Providing a strong foundation for her career accomplishments, Dr. Nwachukwu earned a Bachelor of Science in food science and brewing in 1988, followed by a diploma in nursing and a Master of Science in nursing. Additionally, she completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice in leadership through Sacred Heart University and Fairfield University in 2015 and a post-master’s certificate in family practice nursing from Walden University LLC in 2022.
Dr. Nwachukwu’s professional affiliations reflect her commitment to advancing nursing practice and education. She is a founding member and former president of the New Jersey chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America, where she also served as the chair of the domestic violence awareness committee. She is also affiliated with the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses Association. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Dr. Nwachukwu is deeply engaged with civic organizations and community service initiatives. Her outreach has included international volunteer work with Health Mission Crew in Nigeria and locally through church involvement and mentorship roles within leadership organizations.
Beyond her work-related endeavors, Dr. Nwachukwu’s creative pursuits include authoring multiple poems addressing topics such as diabetes, medical ethics and domestic violence. Notably, she was honored with a First Place Award for her poem by the American Diabetes Association and Eli Lilly Company in 2008.
Among other achievements, Dr. Nwachukwu’s innovative contributions earned her a U.S. patent for a fish-scaling method in 2008. In recognition of her teaching excellence, she received the Neblett Prize Award from Union College of Union County in 2024. Dr. Nwachukwu attributes much of her success to unwavering focus, dedication and humility, qualities that have enabled her to embrace challenges throughout her career. Her willingness to step into leadership roles during times of need has been instrumental in guiding programs through periods of transition and accreditation review.
Looking ahead, Dr. Nwachukwu anticipates dedicating more time to her nurse practitioner practice following retirement from academia. She eagerly awaits this new chapter after decades of impactful service to nursing education and patient care.
