Dr. Matthew Mark Caverly, assistant professor at Middle Georgia State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academia.

With nearly two decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Caverly has established a successful career in education, specializing in political science. He currently excels as an assistant professor at Middle Georgia State University, a position he has held since 2016. In this capacity, he teaches upper-division political science courses and some related disciplinary courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, performs traditional academic service, serves on various committees, mentors theses and dissertations, chairs panels at academic conferences, and researches how public policies are constructed. His experience also includes roles as an adjunct assistant professor at Santa Fe College from 2011 to 2015, an adjunct lecturer at the University of Florida from 2013 to 2015, a visiting assistant professor at the University of North Florida from 2006 to 2014, a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Florida from 2001 to 2006, and a senior security guard at the University of Florida from 1999 to 2002. In the military, he has served as a soldier in the Georgia State Defense Force since 2016, has held the rank of sergeant first class in the National Guard, and has been a first responder with the U.S. Military. He has also contributed to the field through editing and authoring various works, including “Issue Areas and Political Time: The Multiple Presidencies & Congresses of American Foreign & Domestic Policy Construction,” “Drama of the American Political System,” and “The Multiple Presidencies Thesis.”

Additionally, Dr. Caverly has held memberships with the Northeastern Political Science Association since 2017, the Association of the Georgia State Defense Force since 2016, and is an associate member of the American Historical Association since 2007. He has been a professional member of the American Political Science Association since 2007, the Southern Political Science Association Inc. since 2005, and the National Education Association since 2003. He has been a member of the Florida Farm Bureau since 1996, a former union member of the American Federation of Teachers from 2003 to 2014, and a permanent member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and The Phi Beta Kappa Society. He has also contributed his time to the American Legion since 2019, worked as a construction worker for Habitat for Humanity International from 1997 to 1998, and participated in disaster response efforts. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was honored as Educator of the Year by the Student Government at the University of North Florida for both the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 academic years and received the Georgia Meritorious Service Medal from the Georgia State Defense Force.

Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Caverly earned an Associate of Arts from Santa Fe Community College in 1995, a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the University of Florida, cum laude, in 1999, a Master of Arts in teaching from the University of Florida in 2001, and a PhD in political science from the University of Florida in 2008. He also completed coursework in Philosophy and Economics at The City College of New York in 2011. He also earned certifications as a Master Emergency Management Specialist from the State Guard Association of the United States in 2019, as well as as a First Aid, AED, and CPR Basic Life Support provider from The American National Red Cross from 2017 to 2019. Additionally, he is a certified search and rescue specialist, certified emergency medical responder, and certified liaison officer.

Dr. Caverly takes great pride in the impact he has made in the field of education and military service. He attributes his success to his dedication, hard work, and the support of his family. In the coming years, he plans to work on another book, which he hopes to publish within the next two years. Additionally, he aims to be promoted to associate professor and secure tenure at Middle Georgia State University. In regards to his military career, he aspires to be promoted to and retire as a master sergeant.
