Rodney Pennamon, PhD, Director of Counseling Programs Professional Practice at Southern New Hampshire University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in counseling.

With over 25 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Pennamon has excelled as director of the counseling programs professional practice at Southern New Hampshire University since 2022. He began his career at North Georgia College and State University as coordinator of disability services, ADA/504 coordinator, and testing administrator from 1999 to 2004. He later served as director and ADA/504 compliance officer at Georgia State University from 2004 to 2012. He went on to find success as a counseling coordinator and full-time faculty instructor in the clinical mental health counseling program at Webster University from 2014 to 2017. He continued his career as a faculty member and professor at Argosy University from 2017 to 2019 and Walden University from 2019 to 2022.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Pennamon pursued an education at Illinois State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in political science with a concentration in international politics in 1983. He continued his academic efforts at Springfield College, obtaining a Master of Education in counseling and psychological services in 1997. He concluded his studies at the University of Georgia where he earned a Doctorate in counseling and student personnel services (counselor education & supervision) in 2014. He is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Illinois, a board certified national counselor and an approved clinical supervisor.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Pennamon has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He found success with his multiple published works, as well as his dissertation “The Social Identity Experiences of Intergroup Dialogue Facilitators: A Phenomenological Inquiry.” He was a member of multiple organizations including the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the Association for Specialists in Group Work, the National Board for Certified Counselors, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology. Additionally, he was a former troop leader of the Boy Scouts of America.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Pennamon has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was selected for the Southern Regional Education Board’s Dissertation Fellowship from 2013 to 2014 and was presented with the Emerging Scholars Award in 2014 by the Association for Specialists in Group Work.
