Rebecca B. Poyatt, English language arts teacher at The Field School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in middle school education, English language arts and writing.

With 18 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Poyatt has excelled as an English language arts teacher at The Field School in Washington, D.C. since 2022. In her role, she teaches sixth grade and eighth grade students. She is currently revising the eighth-grade curriculum and placing a particular emphasis on writing genres such as daily writing, creative writing, persuasive writing, and analytical writing. She began her career as an elementary school substitute teacher before transitioning to the role of third-grade classroom teacher at St. Anthony Catholic School from 2006 to 2010.  

Ms. Poyatt continued her career as an academic advisor at the University of Georgia from 2011 to 2013. She worked as a learning specialist at Friends School of Atlanta from 2013 to 2014. At High Meadows School, she found success as a classroom teacher from 2014 to 2016. She established herself as a teacher at Landon School of Bethesda, Maryland from 2016 to 2019 and at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School from 2019 to 2022.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Poyatt pursued an education at the Catholic University of America where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in European history, minoring in education, in 2004. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Georgia, graduating with a Master of Education in children’s literature and language arts in 2012 and a Specialist in Education in educational theory and practice in 2013. She completed Trinity Washington University’s accelerated certification program in 2010. Beyond her responsibilities within the field, she has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She volunteered with various schools in the Athens, Georgia area.

Ms. Poyatt attributes her success in teaching to her relentless passion and commitment to continually enhancing her skills. Her dedication to ongoing education in her field has driven her to experiment with new teaching methods. In the immediate future, she intends to enroll at the Bread Loaf School of English for continuing education in English language arts. She envisions a future in consulting where she will be able to leverage her honed skills in curriculum development. Additionally, she has a keen interest in pursuing a doctorate in education.
