Emma Lemus-Miller, PhD, Chairperson of the Organizational Leadership Program at South Texas College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration.
With more than 35 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Lemus-Miller has excelled as the chairperson for the Organizational Leadership Program at South Texas College since 2017. Having additionally contributed to South Texas College as the assistant dean of bachelor programs from 2017 to 2020 and an adjunct professor of organizational leadership from 2016 to 2017, she has served in various educational and administrative positions with National American University, Brightwood College, the University of Phoenix and the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science between 2013 and 2017. Outside of these roles, she found much success at The University of Texas at Brownsville between 1996 and 2014, including as a lecturer of management, the director of the Office of Space Management, an adjunct faculty member, the interim assistant chief information officer, the assistant director of scheduling and course inventory, a customer support supervisor and a computer user services specialist. Dr. Lemus-Miller began her career as an adjunct faculty member with Texas Southmost College from 1985 to 1987 prior to working as a computer specialist for Rovan’s Bakery, Restaurant & BBQ from 1994 to 1996.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Lemus-Miller pursued an education at Texas State Technical College Harlingen, earning an Associate of Applied Science in 1983. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Science in 2001 and a Master of Business Administration in 2005. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Lemus-Miller concluded her studies at Walden University in 2013, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in applied management and decision sciences, leadership and organizational change.
Dr. Lemus-Miller found success with her written works as well, having co-authored “Mentoring Diverse Doctoral Students” for The International Journal of Diversity in Organizations, Communities and Nations in 2012, “Mentoring Diverse Populations” for Linus Publishing in 2013, and “Mentoring: Developing a Culture of Scholarship That Matters” for the University of New Mexico Mentoring Institute in 2013. Attributing her exceptional career to her networking skills, her outgoing personality and her personal touch on ensuring her students feel encouraged and motivated, she is incredibly proud to watch her students graduate and flourish in their personal and professional endeavors. In the coming years, Dr. Lemus-Miller hopes to become the president of a university or community college.
