Having accrued almost two decades of experience, Dr. McCoy is a rising expert in the field of education. Specializing in academic writing, she has served as a postdoctoral research fellow at California State University since 2017. Prior to her current appointment, she worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District for nearly 15 years. Originally joining the district in 2003, she worked as a teacher and secondary mathematics coach at Henry Clay Middle School until 2006. Dr. McCoy subsequently held several other notable teaching roles during her tenure with the district, including as a growth and development observer between 2013 and 2014.

In her other teaching endeavors, Dr. McCoy was also a visiting scholar at Beijing Normal University in 2019. Furthermore, she has operated as the chief executive officer of Phillips International Consulting for 10 years. As part of her vocational journey, Dr. McCoy cultivated her own formal education, earning several degrees over the course of her collegiate career, including a Master of Arts in education and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership at California State University in 2012 and 2016, respectively. In light of her fulfilling career, she largely attributes her success to her self-driven attitude and desire to make a difference in her field. To wit, Dr. McCoy was inspired to become an educator by her mother, who was also an elementary school teacher, and in the coming years, she looks forward to further supporting forward-thinking legislators aiming to revise the educational system.
