Olivia Ferrante, retired consultant and teacher of the visually impaired for Revere High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

A leading advocate for the visually impaired, Ms. Ferrante has dedicated her career to helping others. In addition to her work as an educator, she has championed several proposals which were submitted and accepted in her local government, including brighter lights on her street, audio pedestrian signals in front of city hall, a police substation in her neighborhood, and accessibility for individuals with special needs at the local movie theater. Many of the achievements that she has attained have been the first of their kind in Massachusetts. Now retired, Ms. Ferrante concluded her career as a consultant and teacher of the visually impaired at Revere High School located in Revere, MA, having served in this role from 1974 to 1992. Prior to this role, she was chair of the Braille department at the National Braille Press in Boston, MA.

Highly regarded for her compassion and fearlessness, Ms. Ferrante has been recognized for her outstanding professional efforts on many occasions. She has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America. Ms. Ferrante attributes her achievements to her wonderful parents and the support and encouragement they gave her. Her parents never put limitations on her, and they always expected her to do her best. In addition, she credits her Catholic faith for her mental and spiritual wellbeing.

In addition to her professional work, Ms. Ferrante is known for her civic involvement. Today, she holds a number of positions in her local community including publicist for the Animal Umbrella Cat Shelter, publicist for Catholic Daughters SHARE program, lecturer for the Revere Commission on Disabilities, mentor for the Braille Institute of America, sponsor for the Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults, member of the Mobility Advisory Board for the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, member of the Catholic League, Friend  of the Paul Revere House, member of the Peregrine Fund, member of the Center for Marine Preservation, friend of the Wang Center, and friend of the Boston Public Garden. Additionally, she has been vice president, lifetime member, and publicist for the Revere Society for Cultural and Historical Preservation for 20 years. Other noteworthy organizations that Ms. Ferrante has been a part of include the Third Order of Mary, the Revere Public Library, A Woman’s Concern Inc., the National Braille Literacy Project, Friends of the Sick Children’s Trust, Birthright International, the Adult Music Ministry, the Radio Reading Service for the Blind, the Revere Committee for Handicapped Affairs, and the Immaculate Conception Church. Ms. Ferrante is also known for knitting for charity, where she often knits blankets for veterans and sick babies.

In looking ahead to the future, Ms. Ferrante intends to continue enjoying her well deserved retirement while keeping up on her community involvement. She hopes to pursue passion projects that come about in the years to come.
