William McBride, Philosophy Professor at Purdue University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Dr. McBride is distinguished for more than five decades as an educator, instructing generations of students in different philosophical topics at some of the nation’s top universities. Since 1973, Dr. McBride has shared his passion for philosophy at Purdue University. He originally joined the faculty as an associate professor. In 1976, he became a full professor until 2001, when he was recognized as an Arthur G. Hansen Distinguished Professor. Prior to joining Purdue, Dr. McBride taught at Yale University for nearly a decade and has lectured at Northwestern University, Sofia University and the Korcula Summer School.
In 1959, Dr. McBride earned an AB from Georgetown University. He continued his education as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Lille until 1960. He returned to the United States where he attended Yale University to receive a Master of Arts as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in 1962. Following this, he continued at the institution to receive a PhD as a social science research council fellow in 1964. In his career, he has been an influential writer, penning, editing and publishing several books. Some of these works include, “From Yugoslav Praxis to Global Pathos,” “Social and Political Philosophy” and “Social Theory at a Crossroads.”
Dr. McBride has received several accolades throughout his career, including the Decorated Chevalier, from the Ordre Des Palmes Académiques and a Silver Medal from the Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences. In order to continue developing professionally, Dr. McBride has maintained affiliation with various organizations, including the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences, the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie and the North American Society for Social Philosophy.
