Kenya C. Kilgore, EdD, the assistant principal at Gaffney Middle School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.
Drawing on more than 15 years of experience in the field of education, Dr. Kilgore has earned distinction for her performance as an assistant principal and career development facilitator at Gaffney Middle School in Gaffney, South Carolina, since 2022. Bearing a wealth of expertise in mathematics, individualized education programs, and offering her advice as a mentor on behalf of her fellow teachers, she is primarily responsible for coordinating collaborating groups and training colleagues in instructional strategy. Among her accomplishments at the school, Dr. Kilgore notably implemented an efficient end-of-day dismissal and pickup system to ensure that students safely reach their homes once school is out of session.
Notable for her positive attitude and dedication to ensuring that every day is better than the last, Dr. Kilgore previously served as a teacher of mathematics at the Cherokee County School District, beginning in 2006. In this role, she is most proud to have distinguished herself as the first person to receive the Crystal Apple Award, an accolade that honors the contributions of public educators, at her school district in 2007.
Dr. Kilgore’s exemplary performance in the field was largely born of her educational journey, during which time she studied at the University of Phoenix and attained a Master of Education in elementary education and middle school mathematics. Following this achievement, she went on to graduate with a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and technology in 2016. To remain aware of developments in her field, Dr. Kilgore maintains her membership with such organizations as the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and the South Carolina Education Association.
In accounting for her success, Dr. Kilgore largely credits her perseverance and determination, as well as her passion for helping others reach their goals and fully realize their potential. Her enthusiasm for special education, in particular, stems from the reality of serving as the mother of two special needs children, both of whom were born in Germany and received exemplary treatment in that country’s school system. Looking toward the future, Dr. Kilgore aspires to become a college professor and serve as a voice on-campus for encouraging potential teachers to pursue their academic and career goals.
