Rodney Vance, Tenured Professor & Founder of Film Department at La Sierra University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in filmmaking education and production.
With more than 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Vance has excelled as a tenured professor as well as the founder and chairman of the department of film and television production at La Sierra University since 2012. In addition to this appointment, he has found success as the president, producer, director and writer with Singular Entertainment in Los Angeles, California since 2007. Between 2008 and 2012, Mr. Vance likewise served as a professor and the director of the department of visual arts at Pacific Union College.
Mr. Vance began his career as an expert consultant with the United States Government Accountability Office from 1991 to 1996. During this time, he was additionally active as an adjudicator in playwriting for the American College Theater Festival from 1992 to 1994, the vice chairman of playwriting for the American College Theater Festival from 1994 to 1995, the assistant professor and director of theater for Walla Walla University from 1992 to 1995 and an adjunct professor in the department of theater for Whitman College from 1993 to 1995. Mr. Vance subsequently worked as a story analyst for You Go Boy! Productions with Sony Picture Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment from 1997 to 1998 and an adjunct professor in the department of communication at La Sierra University from 1996 to 1999.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Vance pursued an education at Loma Linda University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in ministerial studies, with honors, in 1978. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Arts in religion with an emphasis in communication at Andrews University in 1981. Mr. Vance concluded his studies at the Catholic University of America, from which he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in theater with an emphasis in playwriting in 1988.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. Vance has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. From 1981 to 1985, he contributed to the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church at Columbia Union College as a college chaplain and an associate pastor. Having written such produced projects as “Miracle at Gate 213” for NBC in 2013, “Angel in Chains” in 2004, “In the Shadow of Bin Laden” in 2004, “Lifestyle Magazine” for ABC in 2001 and “The Evidence” for Court TV, he has had myriad credits to his name as a producer, director, playwright and author, including “The Butterfly, The Harp and The Timepiece” in 2015, “De’Monte Love” in 2007, “Sketches of White” in 1984, “The Great Weiner Dog Race” and “Operation Babylift,” to name only a few. In 2021, Mr. Vance proudly created the film “Shadow Child” for Restore A Child, a charity organization that supports orphanages and schools around the globe. Currently, Mr. Vance is developing an animated television series called “The Legend of Jazz Boy” with Disney animator Marshall Toomey and legendary music producer Tony Shepperd.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Vance has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. In 2016, his film “The Butterfly, the Harp, and the Timepiece” was recognized as the Best Film and he was presented with the Platinum Award for Best Producer and the Movie Maker of the Year Award from the International Movie Awards. Mr. Vance’s creative work has also been honored by the 2016 Beverly Hills Short Film Festival, the 2016 Culver City Film Festival, the 2015 ALL LIGHTS India International Film Festival, the 1999 Edward Albee International Playwrighting Competition, the LA Shorts International Film Festival and the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival.
