Julia Margarete Puaschunder, PhD, teaching faculty at The New School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in economics and sustainability.
Julia Margarete Puaschunder, PhD, is a researcher and expert in climate change and climate justice, debt, inter-generational equity and the aging Western population, who has serves as a teaching faculty at the New School since 2016.
Raised in Austria, she harbored a lifelong passion for knowledge, science and interdisciplinary learning that brought her to the University of Vienna, where she earned a Master of Philosophy in Economic Psychology in 2003, and a Master and Doctor of Business Administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2006 and 2007. Dr. Puaschunder continued her studies with a Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in 2008 on a Fulbright Scholarship before returning to the University of Vienna for a doctoral degree in Natural Sciences and additional coursework in behavioral law and economics. Dr. Puaschunder earned a Master of Philosophy and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics in 2021 and 2022 in the Interuniversity Consortium of New York with coursework at Columbia University, Princeton University, Yale University and The New School.
During the early stages of her career, Dr. Puaschunder was a research assistant at the Management Department of the Vienna University of Economics and Business. As a Fulbright scholar she worked as a policy analyst for the United States Department of Education. She spent several years as a faculty associate and principal investigator at Harvard University, became a Prize Fellow in the Interuniversity Consortium of New York in 2014 and joined the teaching faculty of the New School in 2016 with appointments at the Parsons School of Design, the New School for Public Engagement, the Eugene Lang College and the New School for Social Research. In New York she helped launch notable conferences and speakers events for the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis, the Academy of Management as well as the Academy of Behavioral Finance and Economics.
Dr. Puaschunder has authored 11 books and is active in many professional and academic associations. As a Friends of the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) board member, she advances science diplomacy in cooperation with the United States National Academy of Sciences. In recognition of her career record of interdisciplinary excellence, she has been presented with notable scholarships and fellowships from Europe and North America, including a Max Kade Foundation Scholarship in cooperation with the Austrian Academy of Sciences and an honorable mention in a nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize.
