Michael Yü-Chi Wu, PhD, associate professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in information technology and higher education.
Dr. Wu is distinguished for his background in engineering and higher education. Since 2024, he has been an associate professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Recognized for his passion for the field, he has worked in a teaching capacity for over 15 years. On campus, Dr. Wu is responsible for delivering information technology (IT) education to the student body while providing engaging, thought-provoking lessons.
Throughout his tenure in higher education, Dr. Wu has been active in leading experiential learning methods to enhance student engagement and help them develop IT programs. His goal has been to ensure that students gain valuable skills and knowledge from the university experience.
Before being named an associate professor, Dr. Wu was an assistant professor at the university from 2016 to 2018 and a visiting assistant professor between 2014 and 2016. He also taught as an adjunct professor at South University in 2014. Earlier in his career, Dr. Wu was a teaching assistant and adjunct professor at his alma mater, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, within the electrical and computer engineering department from 2001 to 2006.
Dr. Wu’s expertise in electrical engineering and computer programming has been pivotal to his career in academia and the field. He worked for Makkato as a senior web developer from 2008 to 2010, followed by his role in web development at Nickelfish IDM between 2010 and 2011, senior software developer at Mattersight Corporation from 2011 to 2013, and .NET lead developer at Hewlett-Packard Financial Services between 2013 and 2014.
After working in software development for these companies, Dr. Wu realized that his hard work only benefitted the organizations and did not positively affect others or advance society. This realization led him to pivot and pursue academia, where he would have more leverage to improve society beyond the constraints of corporate demands.
Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Wu studied at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1998, a Master of Science in computer and information science in 2000, a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 2001, and a PhD in electrical engineer in 2008. Besides his formal education, he received credentials as an engineer in training through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. He also received designations from Microsoft in programming and as a certified professional.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Wu has authored and co-authored several professional papers on collimated beam waves. He attributes much of his success to his strong work ethic and a constant drive for self-improvement. Dr. Wu plans to continue teaching as a professor and helping young professionals as they discover their future paths. He also intends to seek new methods, particularly in artificial intelligence, to engage students in this constantly evolving area of the industry. Noting that the future depends on the next generation of these individuals, their competence and ability to implement technologies, Dr. Wu is adamant about paving their path toward success, ensuring they can expand their knowledge and develop better technologies for business.
