Encouraged by a professor to pursue medical school for research and teaching, she initially faced rejection but secured a position at the National Cancer Institute and was later accepted to medical school.
Dr. Sayers-Wright takes great pride in her accomplishments in higher education, becoming the first African American woman in the biology department at her institution. She is especially proud of teaching GED classes and helping establish the first adult education program at the Galveston County Jail. In light of her impressive undertakings, she was recognized as an Outstanding Educator at San Jacinto Community College in 2023, featured in the Houston Chronicle and Coast Monthly, and received a fellowship from National Medical Fellowships. She attributes her success to her achievements to a strong spiritual foundation and the unwavering support of family and friends. Looking to the future, she is focused on launching her nonprofit organization, The Lighthouse, to continue making a difference in the lives of others.
