Mary A. Meyer, Teacher at the Jordan School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Science Education.

Ms. Meyer is recognized for her long and successful career in science education, having served as a teacher in the Jordan School District in Jordan, Utah, since 1996. Over nearly three decades, she has become known for her dynamic, innovative approach to teaching, particularly in general chemistry.

Responsible for conducting seven 90–minute classes, each with more than 30 students, Ms. Meyer also conducts one to two laboratory sessions per week for each class, which typically meets two to three times per week. This method has made science more relevant and exciting for her students, fostering a deeper understanding and greater enthusiasm for the subject.

Ms. Meyer is also deeply involved in mentoring new teachers, acting as both a teacher and technology coach to support professional growth among her colleagues. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom as she leads the after-school science club and advises the chief science officers.

Before her tenure at Jordan School District, Ms. Meyer served as the school-to-careers coordinator for Natrona County School District Number One in Casper, Wyoming, from 1995 to 1996. In this capacity, she facilitated connections between academic learning and real-world career opportunities for students, demonstrating her dedication to students’ professional success outside the classroom.

Ms. Meyer began her teaching journey instructing seventh through 12th grade students at a school in North Dakota for two years. During this period, she taught a diverse array of subjects, including biology, marine biology, environmental science, physics and advanced placement chemistry. This early experience laid the foundation for Ms. Meyer’s future accomplishments in the field.

In preparation for her career future, Ms. Meyer obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and education from the University of Wyoming in 1987 and a Master of Science in chemistry and education from The University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 2005. Her educational achievements have been instrumental in shaping her comprehensive teaching style and ability to mentor others effectively. Besides her formal education, Ms. Meyer holds endorsements in nearly all science areas as well as in English as a Language Learner, technology and teacher coaching.

Active in her professional community, Ms. Meyer is a member of the National Science Teaching Association, the Utah Science Teaching Association and the Jordan Education Association. These affiliations enable her to maintain ongoing professional development and collaboration in the field of science education.

A hallmark of Ms. Meyer’s career has been her commitment to transforming traditional science instruction. Recognizing that textbook-based lessons often failed to engage students, she pioneered a hands-on approach that brings scientific concepts to life. In light of her success, Ms. Meyer received recognition for excellence in teaching, including being named Teacher of the Month and nominated for Teacher of the Year.

An accomplished artist, Ms. Meyer plans to develop her artwork and glasswork into a business venture upon retirement. She hopes to be remembered as someone who consistently worked hard and remained dedicated in every endeavor she pursued. She credits much of her success to mentors and colleagues who fostered collaboration and improvement within the school environment.
