A professional trajectory characterized by diverse roles that reflect her commitment to education and leadership, Dr. Howell’s previous roles included serving as a soccer coach and tennis coach for USA Sport Group in 2024. From 2015 to 2019, she served as the vice president for student life at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, where she implemented strategic plans to promote student success. Recruited from Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, Dr. Howell excelled as the dean of students between 2005 and 2015, during which she received numerous awards for her service to students.
Dr. Howell’s earlier career included her tenure as the dean of student services at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City from 2001 to 2005, leveraging her prior experience as the associate dean of enrollment at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, between 1999 and 2001. Her foundational experiences were shaped at her alma mater, Rutgers University, in Newark, New Jersey, where she held various positions, including assistant dean for academic and student affairs from 1989 to 1997 and then as the senior executive assistant to the associate vice president until 1999.
Dr. Howell’s professional journey began with a robust academic foundation, earning a Bachelor of Arts in education and health from Brooklyn College, a Master of Arts in educational administration and supervision at New York University in 1982, and a Doctor of Education in educational administration and supervision from Rutgers University in 1999. These academic achievements have been instrumental in her ability to design innovative student and enrollment service programs that enhance student success holistically.
In addition to her educational roles, Dr. Howell has had a diverse career outside academia. She served as a co-anchor and reporter for cable television and worked as a lobbyist for both the U.S. Congress and the Virginia General Assembly. Moreover, Dr. Howell’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to manage a modeling school and teach music privately.
Dr. Howell’s dedication extends beyond her professional endeavors into civic engagement. She is a supporter of Compassion International and Vietnam Veterans of America, as well as a donor and volunteer at her local church and throughout various community events.
In light of her contributions, Dr. Howell has been recognized with numerous awards, including being named an International Sports Sciences Association Elite Trainer in 2022. A highly sought-after presenter and facilitator, she attributes her success to the strength and resilience exemplified by her parents, particularly her mother.
