Michael L. Pinedo, PhD, the Julius Schlesinger professor of operations management at New York University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.
Dr. Pinedo, a distinguished educator for over four decades, joined the Stern School of Business at New York University (NYU) in 1997 as the Julius Schlesinger professor of operations management in the department of technology, operations and statistics. For over 25 years, he has been lauded as a passionate and knowledgeable educator, teaching and conducting research in his field. Beginning his academic career in 1980, Dr. Pinedo was an assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology before being acquired by Columbia University as a professor from 1982 to 1997. Outside the classroom, he excelled as an operational risk consultant at Goldman Sachs in New York between 2000 and 2008.
Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Pinedo holds a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands since 1973. He then attended the University of California Berkeley, where he acquired a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in operations research in 1976 and 1978, respectively. In addition to his extensive educational background, Dr. Pinedo has remained at the forefront of his industry through affiliations as a fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences and the Production and Operations Management Society.
Throughout his tenure, Dr. Pinedo has become renowned for his work in scheduling theory, making it more accessible to individuals within the industry. For him, scheduling is essential, particularly in large industries like airline companies and production and manufacturing. As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Pinedo has lent his expertise as an editor and co-editor for several leading publications. He also authored several books via Springer, including “Scheduling: Theory, Algorithms and Systems” via Prentice-Hall in 2002, which has been used in numerous master’s and doctoral programs, and “Planning and Scheduling in Manufacturing and Services” via Springer in 2005. Furthermore, Dr. Pinedo co-authored the book, “Queueing Networks: Customers, Signals and Product Form Solutions” via Wiley. Crediting much of his professional success to his expertise in operational risk in financial services and scheduling theory and applications, he intends to continue excelling at NYU for several more years, become involved in research projects involving companies in Korea, Hong Kong, and China, and complete the next edition of his scheduled book.
