Dwight R.B. Cook, Production Manager and Adjunct Professor of Theatre at Morgan State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Fine Arts and Higher Education.

Mr. Cook, distinguished for his success as an actor and singer for several decades, has been affiliated with Morgan State University in Baltimore since 2002 as a production manager at the institution’s Carl J. Murphy Fine Arts Center. The state-of-the-art center was founded one year prior and named in honor of the first African-American member of the board of regents for then-Morgan State College. Additionally, in 2018, Mr. Cook also became an adjunct professor in the theater, fine and performing arts department.

As part of his ongoing responsibilities, Mr. Cook manages the technical aspects of the fine arts center for the university and outside entities, including facilitating choral, dance and rhythm and blues concerts, debates and theatrical presentations. He also manages all technology on campus. Moreover, Mr. Cook teaches stage management courses within the fine arts department.

Mr. Cook’s early years were recognized when he performed the voice of the Flat Blue lead singer of the Sesame Street song “Disco D.” He has also since written numerous musicals and short plays and has served as a stage manager in theater, television, Broadway and Off-Broadway, both domestically and abroad. Among his most notable roles, Mr. Cook was the director for Woodie King, a production manager for the Boys Choir of Harlem, and the director for Center Stare. Mr. Cook was also a freelance director in Baltimore and Queens, New York, directing numerous developmental theatrical work readings and main-stage productions. Earlier, he was a stage manager for dePasse Entertainment in Los Angeles for the television sitcom “Sister, Sister” and The Carsey-Werner Company in Los Angeles for “A Different World.” Mr. Cook’s remarkable career also saw him act in film, on television and opera stages.

A City University of New York graduate, Mr. Cook received a Bachelor of Arts in theater in 2002. Having previously attended college years before, he majored in music education. Leaving school to begin working at Connecticut College in New London in the early 1970s. Soon after, he auditioned for a role and began working in theater in New York. After many years, Mr. Cook returned to school to advance his career.

As part of his continued commitments to the field, Mr. Cook is a member of the Dramedy’s Guild and the Directors Guild of America. These professional organizations have been instrumental in his success and ability to network with like-minded individuals. Since college, Mr. Cook has also been affiliated with the National Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the Order of the Feather Fraternity.

Beyond his work, Mr. Cook has served as a board member for the National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre in Baltimore since 2024 Present. There, he promotes the Edgar Allan Poe legacy nationally and internationally.

As he looks forward to the future, Mr. Cook intends to retire from the university but continue promoting his work, exploring directing opportunities and serving as a production consultant. He also envisions some of his pieces adapted on Broadway. Moreover, Mr. Cook is passionate about writing and plans to prioritize several projects in the future.
