Mary Jo Iozzio, PhD, professor of moral theology at Boston College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education and theology.

Dr. Iozzio has devoted over 30 years to academia, beginning her career teaching at Barry University in Miami from 1993 to 2013. After two decades of success on campus, she was recruited to teach on the opposite side of the East Coast at Boston College, where she continues to impact students. As an esteemed scholar, Dr. Iozzio has been responsible for lecturing, course preparation, conducting research, and writing as a professor of moral theology in the school of theology and ministry.

Becoming highly educated in her respective field, Dr. Iozzio earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and in ancient Greece and Rome at Pennsylvania State University in 1977, a Master of Art in theology and the history of religion at Fordham University in 1982, a Master of Arts in biblical studies at Providence College in 1987, and a Doctor of Philosophy in theological ethics at Fordham University in 1994. In addition to her formal education, Dr. Iozzio received a licentiate in sacred theology through Boston College in 2019.

As a testament to her commitment to the field, Dr. Iozzio is a professional member of the Catholic Theological Society of America, the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Christian Ethics. She has also written extensively, becoming widely recognized for her work on disability justice with publications like “Disability Ethics and Preferential Justice.” Dr. Iozzio is presently working on her forthcoming publication of the book “Radical Dependence: A Theological Anthropology and the Key of Disability.” Highlighting her work, she has been presented with several recognitions, including a Professional Development Award from Barry University and recognition as a distinguished professor and Austin and Ann O’Malley visiting chair in bioethics from Loyola Marymount University. Dr. Iozzio attributes her success to her dedication to bringing the insight of moral theology to the contemporary world.
