Stan Wood, professor, consultant, and coach at Sowers Field Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in coaching and mentoring.
With over four decades of experience, Dr. Wood has established a successful career in coaching, mentoring, and ministry, currently excelling as a professor, consultant, and coach at Sowers Field Inc., a role he has held since 2008. His experience also includes serving as the Ford Chair Associate Professor of Congregational Leadership and Evangelism at San Francisco Theological Seminary from 2004 to 2008, and as the director of the Center for New Church Development at Columbia Theological Seminary from 1997 to 2004. He also served as lead pastor and national staff member for church planting and congregational growth at the Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia from 1980 to 1997, and chaplain for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League from 1980 to 1983. Additionally, he is an active member of the American Society of Missiology and the Association of Theological Schools. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1978, a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University, a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a PhD in Practical Theology from the University of Aberdeen in 1997.
Refelcting on his path, Dr. Wood’s journey has been guided by his commitment to sharing the message of Jesus Christ. His calling began during his senior year in college and has since evolved through a variety of meaningful experiences, including youth ministry, pastoral work, church planting, and advancing his education. These diverse roles led him to a professorship, where he developed programs focused on new church development and congregational leadership. He takes great pride in his dedicated service to ministry, especially in the remarkable growth of his church, as well as his academic accomplishments. Throughout his career, he has authored influential books and contributed to the establishment of one of the pioneering doctoral programs in church planting.
Dr. Wood attributes his success to his unwavering dedication to mentoring and guiding future church leaders. Looking to the future, he looks forward to continuing his work in teaching, consulting, and coaching. In the coming years, he plans to initiate a pastor training program in El Salvador and lead a retreat in San Salvador. He will also collaborate with a peer to provide training for pastors who cannot attend theological seminaries in developed countries, using a model he has successfully implemented in China, Brazil, Ghana, and Kenya. Additionally, he aims to expand theological education and accreditation training to leaders in the rapidly growing global South church, the largest and fastest-growing segment of Christianity worldwide.
