Kathleen Searles Ermini

Title: Former Headmistress
Location: Gainesville, Virginia, United States

Kathleen Searles Ermini, former headmistress, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

With over two decades of experience in education, Ms. Searles has built a successful career as a headmistress. She has served in this role for 11 years, including three years at Halsted School. Her career also includes 10 years as an English teacher, with experience at Mount Vernon High School, and earlier work as an elementary school teacher. She is also an accomplished author, with published works including “Seaspin,” “The Long Road Home,” and “Their Shadows Remain.” She is actively involved in her community, dedicating her time to the Heritage Hunt Women’s Organization and contributing to environmental causes, and her commitment to service was recognized in 1983 when she was mentioned in the Congressional Record. Additionally, she is a recognized watercolorist, having produced several dozen paintings after studying art under Rachel Collins for two years.

Reflecting on her journey, Ms. Ermini laid a solid educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and education from Mercy University, graduating cum laude, and a Master of Science in English literature and education from Iona University. She is also a certified high school and elementary school teacher in New York. She taught both elementary and high school students in New York’s inner city, where she focused on providing quality education to underserved communities. She also volunteered to support women and minorities entering the workforce by developing and teaching programs to help them pass civil service exams. Additionally, she worked with troubled youth through a juvenile diversion program, helping them reintegrate into mainstream education and society. Her involvement extended to testifying in court to advocate for these children.

Ms. Ermini’s commitment to education and advocacy was influenced by her father, who was dedicated to improving his education and status. He played a significant role in raising her and her sisters, exposing them to opportunities and encouraging their growth. His example inspired her to focus on the needs of minorities and to support efforts to help women reenter the workforce and achieve independence. She takes great pride in her accomplishments, particularly in successfully raising three children who have excelled in their respective careers. Her eldest son is a doctor and serves as the chief of staff at the South Carolina Regional Center. Her other son is a renowned architect with projects around the globe, and her daughter, who holds a master’s degree, is advancing her career at Booz Allen. She attributes her success to her upbringing and the unwavering support of her family.

In the coming years, Ms. Ermini is focused on securing publication for her current book. Additionally, she is committed to raising public awareness about the significant impact of large-scale developments on the ecosystem. While she does not oppose these developments outright, she advocates for their execution within reasonable parameters, with careful consideration of their long-term effects and implications. In advising aspiring professionals, she emphasizes that education extends beyond the classroom and is a lifelong pursuit. She encourages them to constantly strive to improve society, to dedicate themselves fully, and to deeply understand their pupils and the issues at hand. She reminds them that they are shaping the leaders of tomorrow and must make a positive impact on society.
