With nearly four decades of experience, Mr. Sorbello has built a distinguished career in marine engineering education and logistics management, specializing in the operation of vessels powered by gas, diesel, and steam turbines. Currently, he excels in multiple roles, including senior engineer and lead instructor at Emprise Corporation since 2021, professor at Capella University since 2020, and senior engineer at Emprise Corporation since 2013. He instructs in two engineering programs used by government agencies—the Military Sealift Command and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, focusing on preventive maintenance software, supply system search tools, leadership, and global supply chain management. He also mentors Doctor of Business Administration candidates and doctoral students on their capstone and dissertation projects. His experience also includes roles such as manager of training at Emprise Corporation, program manager for the Shipboard Automated Maintenance Management System, and chief of fleet maintenance and logistics at NOAA. 

Dr. Sorbello has also contributed to numerous creative works, including authoring the book chapter “Pandemics, Politics, and Toilet Paper: How Consumers Affect Supply Chains” in “COVID-19: Embracing New Normal; Resilience Just in Time, Powerful Survival Strategy,” the chapter “Business and Social Challenges from Unexpected Global Events” in “Standoff: Virus and Us,” and co-authoring the chapter “Quantum Computers – Using Change Management to Study the Pandemic” in the same volume. He is an active member of several organizations, including the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the Golden Key International Honor Society, Delta Mu Delta, the Honor Society, the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Masonic Fraternity, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Shriners International, and the International Society of Poets. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was honored as Mariner of the Year by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2009, the Captain Arthur L. Johnson Award from the United States Navy League in 2003, the James D. Forrestal Award from the U.S. Naval War College in 1999, and second place in the National Poetry Contest in 1996. He was also named Supervisor of the Year by the Military Sealift Command in 1991 and received the Naval Leadership Award from California State University Maritime Academy in 1979.

Dr. Sorbello laid a solid educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Science in marine engineering from California State University Maritime Academy in 1979, a Master of Arts in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College in 1999, and both a Master of Arts in management philosophy and a PhD in management with a specialization in leadership and organizational change from Walden University in 2019. His certifications include a USCG Certificate as chief engineer for steam, motor, and gas turbine engines of any horsepower, as well as RCM I & II and RCA Certified Instructor, and EPA 608 Technician. He attributes his success to the invaluable guidance of his mentors and role models, along with his unwavering dedication to his profession. Looking ahead, he plans to continue teaching while delving deeper into studies on subcultural perceptions, paradigm shifts, and the evolution of organizational and leadership models. Currently, he is refining a 10-novel fiction series and anticipates submitting the manuscripts for publication.
