With nearly three and a half decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Shows excels in the field of education, specializing in instructional and curriculum design, with a focus on computer programming, and e-learning. She is currently the vice president of instruction for Southwest Mississippi Community College, a role she has held since 2002. Additionally, she has served as an instructor at the same institution since 1990. In these roles, she teaches online classes, prepares and validates reports, trains faculty members, students, and personnel, facilitates parent-student meetings, and hires new employees. Laying a solid foundation for her future success, she pursued an education at The University of Southern Mississippi, earning a bachelor’s degree, followed by a master’s degree in computer science and mathematics in 1990 and PhD coursework in computational sciences. Additionally, she earned a certificate in the course “What is Generative Artificial Intelligence?” from LinkedIn Corporation in 2023.
Ms. Shows takes pride in working with students across different levels of education, lending her expertise to provide them with support and guidance. She attributes her success to the power of hard work and determination. She is also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and believes her faith has played a significant role in shaping her life. Outside of her professional endeavors, she donates her time as a tutor in her local community and with her local church. Looking ahead, she is eager to expand her knowledge and skills through continuous learning, with a particular interest in learning new languages, as her school has several international students, and she hopes to continue tutoring and working in athletics.
