In 2023, she took on the role of ESL summer program coordinator.

Throughout her career, Ms. Cortinas has been dedicated to continuous professional development, earning certifications as a learning disability teacher consultant and a post-master’s supervisor in educational leadership and administration. She is also a member of various professional organizations, including NJ Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, NJ Bilingual Educators, and the New Jersey Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents. Beyond her work in education, Ms. Cortinas has made significant contributions to her community, volunteering with Dramatic Adventure Theatre in Ecuador and serving on the Parent Teacher Association. She has been recognized for her achievements with awards such as Newark New Jersey Citizen of the Year and the WE Local New ELiTE Award from the Society of Women Engineers.

Ms. Cortinas attributes her success to her unwavering commitment to her career and her passion for empowering students to achieve their full potential. Inspired by her own experiences as a first-generation American, she is dedicated to being a guiding light for her students and helping them realize their dreams. Looking ahead, she is committed to continuing her work in education and advocacy, with a focus on creating innovative programs to support immigrant families and students. She is driven by her vision of a future where all students have access to quality education and the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.
