Juergen Rauleder, PhD

Title: Professor of Vertical Lift Aeromechanics
Company: Georgia Institute of Technology
Location: Decatur, Georgia, United States

Juergen Rauleder, PhD, professor of Vertical Lift Aeromechanics at Georgia Institute of Technology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in aerospace engineering education.

Prof. Juergen Rauleder teaches and conducts research at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA. He teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in aerodynamics and rotorcraft engineering, is the Associate Director of the Army, Navy, NASA Vertical Lift Center of Excellence, and he directs the large Harper Wind Tunnel at Georgia Tech.

Prof. Rauleder’s research interests are the experimental and applied numerical aerodynamics, with a focus on interactional aerodynamics, coupled aerodynamics with flight dynamics, as well as active, shape-adaptive rotating and fixed wings. His basic research is applied to the aerodynamic design and understanding of current and future vertical lift configurations, including advanced (urban) aerial mobility and UAS, as well as pilot training and simulators. Prof. Rauleder’s research is sponsored by the U.S. Army, Navy, NASA, ONR, NATO, the EU, and by industry. He received a master’s degree from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and a PhD from the University of Maryland under the guidance of Prof. Gordon Leishman. He is an Associate Fellow of AIAA, serves on the AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Committee and on the VFS Aerodynamics Technical Committee.

Aside from directing a vibrant, large research program at one of the top aerospace schools in the world, Prof. Rauleder takes most pride in advising and mentoring his students and research employees. He dedicates most of his professional success to his commitment to his students, many of which in the meantime have moved on to their own successful engineering careers. In the coming years, he intends to continue mentoring and educating the next-generation engineering workforce, publishing additional research, and developing high-impact technology products for his sponsors.
