With more than 35 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Dryer has excelled as a teacher and docent at the Underground Railroad of Cass County. She garnered a stellar reputation as an elementary school teacher for 35 years and retired from the school system in 2003. Before embarking on her professional path, she pursued an education at Western Michigan University where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She concluded her studies at Indiana University South Bend, graduating with a master’s degree in 1972.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Dryer has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She contributes to veteran-related causes as she came from the era of the Vietnam conflict. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was presented with multiple Service Awards for her decades of service.

Ms. Dryer attributes her success to her ability to listen to children who often have no one else to turn to. During her time as a teacher, she served on the crisis committee and recognized that many children lacked an outlet to express their thoughts and feelings. She provided a safe space for these children to vent and share what was bothering them.

Ms. Dryer used to live in Mishawaka, Indiana, where she worked as a teacher. After retirement, she and her family decided to make Cass County their permanent home. In the immediate future, she intends to keep in touch with the Underground Railroad community and stay informed about its educational initiatives. In addition, her ultimate goal is to remain healthy and spend as much time as she can with her family.
