Mandi J. Collins, Assistant Professor at UMass Chan Medical School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in gerontology and anatomy.

With nearly 20 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Collins has excelled as an Assistant Professor and Director of Anatomical Services at UMass Chan Medical School. In her role, she is responsible for managing and operating the body donation program and teaching first-year medical students human anatomy. She began her career as a funeral director apprentice at Helke Funeral Home from 2008 to 2009. She served as a licensed funeral director and embalmer at Mahn Family Funeral Home from 2009 to 2011. At the University of Vermont College of Medicine, she contributed as director and embalmer from 2011 to 2016. She became the Director of Anatomical Aervices at UMass Chan Medical School in 2016, and began teaching in 2018. She joined FINE Mortuary College as an adjunct faculty member in 2023, teaching anatomy and embalming chemistry to mortuary students.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Collins pursued an education at the University of Minnesota where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Family Social Science in 2007 and a Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science in 2008. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Vermont, graduating with a Master of Public Health in 2017. At the University of Florida, she obtained a graduate certificate in Medical Human Anatomy in 2020. She is concluding her studies at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, pursuing a PhD in gerontology.

As part of her role at UMass Chan, Ms. Collins has engaged innumerous outreach endeavors. She engages with the community to provide post-death services to veterans, and the local LGBTQ community. Community engagement ensures diversity among the body donor population, while healing historical mistrusts of marginalized communities.

In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Collins remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She served as co-founder of the Eastern Consortium of Academic Body Donation Programs and was a member of the American Association for Anatomy, the Gerontological Society of America, the Anatomical Services Committee, the American Association of Clinical Anatomists, and the National Funeral Directors Association. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was presented with the Anatomical Service Award for Scholarly Activities in 2020 and was inducted into Sigma Phi Omega and Tri Alpha.
