Rick Rhodes, Executive Director at Northeastern Regional Association of State Agricultural Experiment Station Directors and a Professor at University of Rhode Island, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in veterinary education.

With nearly 45 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Rhodes has excelled as a professor at the University of Rhode Island since 1994 and the executive director of the Northeastern Regional Association of State Agricultural Experiment Station Directors since 2016. In addition to these positions, he was active at the University of Rhode Island as the chairman of the Department of Fisheries and Animal and Veterinary Sciences from 1997 to 2000, the interim vice provost for academic affairs from 2001 to 2003, and the associate dean from 2000 to 2001 and 2003 to 2016. He previously served as an adjunct professor of chemical engineering and a senior research fellow at Northeastern University between 1990 and 1994, and an assistant professor and associate professor at the University of Rhode Island between 1982 and 1994. Dr. Rhodes began his career as a National Institute of Health postdoctoral fellow in endocrinology at West Virginia University from 1980 to 1982.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Rhodes pursued an education at the University of Delaware, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture and animal science in 1974. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in physiology of reproduction at Texas A&M University in 1977. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Rhodes concluded his studies at Texas A&M University in 1980, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in physiology of reproduction.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Rhodes has accrued several accolades throughout his career. In 1997, he was recognized as the Teacher of the Year at the University of Rhode Island. He was subsequently presented with the National Teaching Award from the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges in 1998. More recently, Dr. Rhodes was selected for inclusion in the Hall of Fame of the College of the Environment Life Sciences at the University of Rhode Island in 2016.

Having initially been encouraged to enter the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Rhodes attributes his success to the influence and guidance of his father, a mechanical engineer; George Hanline, his undergraduate advisor; and Ron Randall, his major advisor during his graduate studies. Among his many achievements, he fondly recalls his experiences attending conferences, writing papers, and collaborating with renowned individuals. Likewise, he is particularly proud to equip his pupils with the necessary tools to achieve greatness and accomplish remarkable feats, for which he feels immense gratitude and satisfaction. Looking toward the future, Dr. Rhodes is committed to continuing his work because he firmly believes that he is making a significant impact in the field of higher education while cultivating the next generation of leaders who reflect the diversity of the population.
