William F. Carroll, Professor of Sociology at Motlow State Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sociology.

With over 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Carroll has excelled as professor of sociology at Motlow State Community College since 2019. As such, his areas of expertise include social and economic inequality, racism, diversity, empathy, and learning from multiple perspectives. He began his career as a martial arts instructor and retired from that position in 2005. He worked at a correctional institute for seven years, and at the Morristown New Jersey Sherriff’s department for eight years. He found success as an oil field geopressure engineer and as a martial arts instructor for 15 years. 

Mr. Carroll pursued an education at Arizona State University where he earned a master’s degree in sociology in 2018. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in British and American literature from Southern New Hampshire University. In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Carroll remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the National Education Association and the APA. Additionally, he volunteered at local food banks in his area. 

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Carroll has accrued several accolades throughout his career. During his tenure as a martial arts instructor, he won nine national martial arts championships in the Amateur Athletic Union between 1997 to 2002. His most notable achievement was teaching six courses in 2022. He attributes his success to his preparation, patience, and the martial arts master who saw potential in him and instilled in him the confidence that inspired him to excel.
