Thomas F. Obee, professor emeritus at Saint Clair College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in English and philosophy.

With nearly 50 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Obee has excelled as an instructor and professor of English and philosophy at Saint Clair County Community College from 1967 to 2010. He served as chairman of the English department at same in 1970 and from 1972 to 1973, chairman of student assessment from 1988 to 1993, and director of writing assessments from 1993 to 1997. In addition to these appointments, he contributed to Saint Clair County Community College as chairman of the academy review committee from 1978 to 1980 and again from 1990 to 1991.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Obee pursued an education at Saint Clair County Community College where he earned an associate of arts in 1963. He continued his academic efforts at the University of Michigan where he obtained a bachelor of arts in 1965. Following these accomplishments, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a master of arts in 1966 before concluding his postgraduate studies at same in 1967.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Obee has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to Saint Clair County Democratic Committee as precinct delegate from 1968 to 1970 and as board director at the Nursery Day-Care School of Richmond, Michigan from 1980 to 1983. He held the role of faculty representative at the Truman Foundation from 1992 to 1995 and was a member of the Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee from 1990 to 2001.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Obee remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He maintained involvement as an advisor of the alumni chapter of the Honor Society of Saint Clair County Community College and the retirees association of Saint Clair County Community College.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Obee has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was featured as a top professional by the Wall Street Professional and recipient of the Jack Kente Cooke Scholarship in 2004. He was presented with the Distinguished Faculty Award from Saint Clair County Community College in 1997 and was the first recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997 from the same in 1989. He won ten international Distinguished Advisor Awards, the Distinguished Regional Coordinator Award, and the Centralis Award.

Now that he has retired, Mr. Obee is considering writing a biography for his children. Additionally, he hopes to continue working with the retirees’ group and the discussion group.
