Carol Lee Backer, a counselor at Red Clay Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.

For more than 30 years, Ms. Backer distinguished herself through her role as an educator, having served as a school counselor at Red Clay Consolidated School District from 1984 until her retirement in 2015. Specializing in dealing with issues arising from family dysfunction, social situations, and academic difficulties, she is proud to have shepherded numerous students on their way toward success. In honor of her accomplishments, Ms. Backer has been the recipient of several accolades throughout the course of her career, including recognition as School Counselor of the Year in 1997. 

Ms. Backer holds a master’s degree in school counseling, and was certified in reality therapy in 1989. To remain aware of developments in her field, she maintained her affiliation with various organizations, including the American School Counselor Association and the Delaware School Counselors Association. Likewise acclaimed for her volunteerism, she served for two years as an educator with the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone, and has more recently dedicated herself to working with Birthright International of Delaware, Family Promise, and PEO International. In accounting for her overall success, Ms. Backer largely credits the influence of her parents, who inspired her to greatness in both her educational and civic endeavors. Looking toward the future, she hopes to complete her travels of the United States.
