Donald E. Morisky, ScD, ScM, MSPH, Research Professor Emeritus at UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Dr. Morisky is a research professor emeritus at UCLA Jonathan and Karin Fielding School of Public Health, in Los Angeles, California a position he had held since 2017. Prior to this, he was a research professor here from 1982 to 2017. Previously, he was a senior research associate at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland from 1975 to 1982. From 1968 to 1971, he was a volunteer with the Peace Corps, providing services in Legazpi City, Philippines.
After graduating from the Office of Public Health Studies – University of Hawaii System with a Master of Science in public health in 1972, Mr. Morisky attended Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health for a Master of Science in population medicine and a doctorate in public health, completing his studies in 1982. He has co-authored several publications presented in medical journals. His area of expertise is health behavior. He developed the Morisky Adherence Scale, which addresses health behavior issues, chronic disease and long-term infectious diseases.
In the next few years, Dr. Morisky plans to do more work with patient care services, integrating information he has learned from research into the practical side of medicine. He will also continue growing his company and promoting use of his Morisky Scale.
