Ravi S. Starzl, PhD, adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in technology education.

Dr. Starzl leverages more than 25 years of experience as an expert in the field of education. Specializing in technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and complex system dynamics, he has served as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University since 2020. Dr. Starzl originally joined the institution in 2011 as a teaching assistant. During his time at the college, he operated as a postdoctoral researcher in 2012, a machine learning systems scientist from 2012 to 2015, and the co-director of the AI and entrepreneurship program from 2015 to 2020.

Adjacent to his primary duties, Dr. Starzl has worked with Boeing as an AI, ML and data science expert since 2015 and with Lutron Electronics Co. Inc. as a data science consultant since 2016. He previously excelled in similar roles with notable brands and companies such as MetLife, Samsung, Searchlogic and StarSite Inc. Furthermore, Dr. Starzl formerly offered his skillset to defense and military organizations, including the United States Air Force, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Armed Forces Institute for Regenerative Medicine (AFIRM).

As part of his dedication to his profession, Dr. Starzl remains active as a member of several industry-related organizations, including the Association for Computational Machinery (ACM) Inc., the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He also continues to participate as a mentor for the Leap Program and the SCS4ALL program at Carnegie Mellon. Dr. Starzl previously cultivated his own higher education, ultimately achieving a Doctor of Philosophy in machine learning and artificial intelligence at Carnegie Mellon in 2012.

Well-regarded for his professional achievements, Dr. Starzl was recognized for the Leading Innovation in Maternity for Child and Newborn Health Care by Reimagining Global health in 2015. In light of his fulfilling career, he has largely attributed his success to his humility and grounded nature. Accounting for his accomplishments, Dr. Starzl is most notably proud of his work alongside Boeing, where he has assisted the company in establishing a prominent presence in the commercial aircraft industry.
