With more than three decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Marcel has earned distinction as a teacher of the French language at Frank W. Cox High School, an affiliate institution of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools, since 2017. Having served on behalf of the school district since 2008, she has largely been responsible for teaching students from the grades of six to 12 in introductory and AP-level French, as well as developing course curriculum, tutoring students and integrating technology into classroom exercises. Previously, Ms. Marcel served in similar roles at the Buckingham County Public Schools and at Henrico County Public Schools.
Before embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Marcel pursued a formal education at Randolph-Macon College, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts in French language and teacher education in 1998. Following this accomplishment, she received a Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1999. During this time, she was inducted into the honorable societies of Kappa Delta Pi and Pi Delta Phi, and served as the treasurer of a local chapter of the Student Virginia Education Association.
In accounting for her success in the field, Ms. Marcel credits the support of her parents, as well as the tutelage of several passionate mentors. Looking toward the future, she aspires to depart from her classroom responsibilities but remain active in the field of education as a world language coordinator or an instructional specialist.
