Stephen R. Jones, retired founding co-director of the Oregon Writing Project at Willamette University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the fields of literature and writing.
With 45 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Jones has cultivated a career of excellence as an educator. Prior to his recent retirement, he served as a founding co-director of the Oregon Writing Project at Willamette University, where he also instructed students in college and high school level writing. Specializing in literature and creative writing, Mr. Jones operated as an educator from 1980 to 2015, working with such schools and institutions as Oregon State University, Washington State University, Chemeketa Community College and Willamette University.
As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Jones pursued a formal education, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degrees and later attending Oregon State University and completing coursework and research towards a doctoral degree. He also honorably served with the United States Army for several years as a paratrooper and special agent in the Intelligence Corps. Well-regarded for his creative output, having published over 200 poems, essays and reviews, he maintains his status as a member of the Oregon Poetry Association and the Oregon Council of Teachers of English. In light of his fulfilling career, Mr. Jones attributes much of his success to his love of literature and the support of his colleagues in the field. Looking to the future, he intends to collect some of his best poems and eventually publish them.
