Joyce Lindsey-Rairick, BS, MA, Retired Educator at Durand Area Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary school education and special education.

With more than 30 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Lindsey-Rairick is currently retired, having most recently excelled as an elementary school educator with Durand Area Schools. During this time, she was appointed as both a negotiator and secretary for the Michigan Education Association. Subsequently, Ms. Lindsey-Rairick notably served as the president of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Lindsey-Rairick pursued an education at Michigan State University, from which she initially obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1968. She continued her academic efforts with a Bachelor of Science in reading and education at Eastern Michigan University in 1969. Following these accomplishments, she graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Master of Arts in special education in 1974. Ms. Lindsey-Rairick eventually concluded her studies by earning a Master of Business Administration.

Ms. Lindsey-Rairick attributes her success to the advice of her parents, who encouraged her to follow through on all of her aspirations and put all of herself into her work. She was drawn to her field after initially deciding upon a career as a social worker, but found herself naturally gravitating toward education upon enrolling in college. Among the many highlights of her career, Ms. Lindsey-Rairick fondly recalls teaching special education students for 13 years of her tenure in education, a time in which she was able to exhibit her patience and empathy.

Over the course of her career, Ms. Lindsey-Rairick taught every elementary grade with the exception of the fifth grade. Fluent in multiple languages, including English, Dutch, German, French, and Spanish, she is also proud to perform with two orchestras in her spare time, Simply Strings and the Fenton Community Orchestra, with which she has played the violin for 10 years. Looking toward the future, Ms. Lindsey-Rairick wants to do traveling in the next five to ten years.
