Pamela E. Wanga, BEd, MA, PhD (Canada), Retired Tenured Professor at Southern University of New Orleans, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in child development education.
With more than 30 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Wanga is currently retired, having excelled as a tenured professor of child development and family studies at the Southern University of New Orleans from 2012 to 2017. During this time, she was distinguished as Kellogg’s Endowed Professor in Education at the aforementioned university in 2014. Prior to her final appointment in her field, Ms. Wanga was active at the Southern University of New Orleans as the chairperson and program director for child development and family studies as well as an associate professor.
Ms. Wanga previously served as a system director in the chancellor’s office at the University of Minnesota for five years. She began her career as a professor and department chairperson at the University of Nairobi in Kenya in 1983. Furthermore, Ms. Wanga was considered to be an expert on teacher preparation, student teacher supervision and accreditation over the course of her lengthy academic endeavors.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Wanga pursued an education at the University of Nairobi, from which she obtained a bachelor’s degree in educational administration. She concluded her studies at the University of Alberta in 1983, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in educational administration and supervision. Notably, Ms. Wanga was presented with a Commonwealth Scholarship from the University of Alberta to complete her graduate coursework.
Hailing from a culture that did not appreciate educated females, Ms. Wanga is proud to have been the only female to go to high school and remains grateful for the support that she received and the values instilled within her by her parents. Passionate about making an impact on the lives of others, she attributes her success to her desire for humility. While her most impressive professional accomplishment may be her new project in New Orleans, she fondly recalls her personal achievement of working to earn her American citizenship. Looking toward the future, Ms. Wanga hopes to dedicate her time to writing and sharing her experiences with new people, having been previously published in various encyclopedias.
