Jalen Jorel Montgomery, Director of Bands and Orchestras at Coronado High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
Since 2021, Mr. Montgomery has shared his expertise as the director of bands and orchestras at Coronado High School, part of the Scottsdale Unified School District. In this post, he is responsible for ensuring the students have a strong foundation in music, both in string instruments and band settings. He has directed the school’s marching band, concert band, orchestra, pep band, and jazz band.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Montgomery attended Arizona State University, an institution recognized by the U.S. News & World Report as the country’s most innovative school. He graduated in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree. Mr. Montgomery has experience playing the bassoon, saxophone, tuba, trumpet, contrabassoon, flute, and trombone.
In recognition of his professional accomplishments, Mr. Montgomery has been the recipient of a Special Award in Marching Band and Music. He earned the President Award from New American University and was awarded a Robert “Coach” Fleming Scholarship. To keep abreast of developments in music education, Mr. Montgomery has been a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity, since 2017. During his studies at Arizona State University, he was the president of the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee.
Mr. Montgomery attributes his success to his work ethic and efficiency. He also cites his mentors and teachers as sources of professional inspiration and motivation. From a young age, he loved music, and in seventh grade, he started playing the bassoon. By 10th grade, Mr. Montgomery knew he wanted to pursue high school music education as a career. In the coming years, he hopes to grow the band and orchestra programs at Coronado High School and give students more opportunities to perform at a high level of musical proficiency.
