With over three decades of experience to her credit, Dr. Stoney is a proven expert in the field of education. Specializing in special, physical and multicultural education, she has excelled as an associate professor at Kansas State University since 1999. She also serves as the interim chief diversity and inclusion officer for the university. Throughout her time with the institution, Dr. Stoney has strived to leave a lasting impact on the community and the college of education.

Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Stoney operated as a teacher in the special education department at The University of Texas at Austin for several years. She also worked as a physical education teacher at Texas A&M University and at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). While teaching at UTEP, she additionally served as an assistant coach for women’s basketball. Dr. Stoney began her career as a middle school teacher in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Before embarking on her vocational journey, Dr. Stoney pursued her own formal education. As an alumnus of The University of Texas system, she earned a bachelor’s degree in special education and health, a master’s degree in kinesiology, and a doctoral degree in special education and multicultural education. As part of her dedication to her profession, she also remains affiliated with the Riley County Law Board and No Stone Unturned. Well regarded for her accomplishments in the field, the college of education at The University of Texas recognized Dr. Stoney with a Golden Nugget Award.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Stoney has largely attributed her success to her love of working with individuals, especially students. To wit, she is passionate about guiding them along their educational journeys and impacting young minds. She was inspired to pursue a career as a professor in high school, after watching one of her teachers inspire a fellow student to clear a hurdle during a physical education class. In the coming years, Dr. Stoney hopes to continue finding success in her field and changing her university for the better.
