Stanley W. Johnson, a Retired Band Director, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
An expert in instrumental music who thrived as a music educator for several decades, Mr. Johnson has been widely recognized for his professional achievements. He worked throughout his career as a band director and high school teacher, including 19 years at Shickley High School. Upon his retirement in 2009, he became a part-time instructor in the University of Nebraska Omaha’s music department until 2020. In that role, he observed classroom lessons and provided feedback and valuable mentorship to the instructors.
Mr. Johnson’s many noteworthy accomplishments include the honor of being distinguished among the 50 Band Directors in the United States Who Made a Difference during the 1999-2000 academic year, as well as being named the Best Band Director in the State by the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association. Moreover, he was recognized as an Outstanding Music Educator by the National Association for Music Education in 2009 and 2010. He is most proud of the work he has done in music education with both teachers and students, inspiring countless individuals to understand the value of music education.
Prior to beginning his professional journey, Mr. Johnson obtained a bachelor’s degree in music performance and education from Hastings College in Nebraska, as well as a master’s degree in instrumental music education from the University of Northern Colorado. Additionally, he earned a lifetime teaching certificate.
Dedicated to his field, Mr. Johnson has been involved with the Nebraska Music Education Association and has served as a mentor with the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association. Adept at playing the piano and most band instruments, he has excelled as a church organist for the Zion Lutheran Church and United Church of Christ Congregational Church. Since 2001, he has been a staff member for the Nebraska Ambassador of Music.
