Christopher John van Leeuwen, Director of Vocal Music at Hornell High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Mr. van Leeuwen is the director of vocal music for Hornell High School in New York, a position he has held since 2007. He is certified in the state of New York to teach music education for all education levels through grade 12. He also has a New York State coaching certification. He is a coach, a vocal adjudicator, a guest lecturer and a guest conductor.
Mr. van Leeuwen earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York and subsequently graduated from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania with a master’s degree in educational administration. He is a member of the New York State School Music Association and a board member for the Hornell Community Theater. As a vocalist and actor for the Hornell Community Theater, he also performs on stage before live audiences.
Mr. van Leeuwen was inspired by his high school music teacher, whom he considers a mentor. Her no-nonsense and yet supportive approach to teaching motivated him and propelled him toward his future career path. He plans to continue teaching in the future and move forward in his own professional growth.
