Sonja Wells, School Psychologist at Blount County Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatric counseling and teaching the deaf.

Following obtaining a Bachelor of Science in deaf education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Ms. Wells continued her education with a Master of Arts in behavioral science and school psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She is certified in Basic Sign Language interpretation.

Ms. Wells provided superior service as a school psychologist and teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing fluent in American Sign Language, most recently with the Blount County Schools from 1996 to 2013. Ms. Wells has garnered an award for behavioral interventions with the Texas City Independent School District. Her professional memberships have included the National Association of School Psychologists, Texas Association of School Psychologists and Tennessee Association of School Psychologists.

After her retirement from the Blount County Schools, Ms. Wells has excelled as an author, publishing “No Accidents” in 2016 and “Way of Life” in 2020. She has captured First Place in the Bermuda Short Story Contest Adult Age Category in 2018 and in 2020.

Ms. Wells takes pride in of some of the behavioral interventions that she was involved with and the emotional disturbed students with whom she worked, enjoying good rapport with parents. In the coming years, she hopes to start a women’s support group in Bermuda within their two churches. There are a lot of people there who had some trauma in their past, and she would like to give them the opportunity to be able to talk about things. In addition, Ms. Wells just finished her third fiction book and she is currently in the editing phase.
