Dr. Kathy Tuberville, EdD, associate professor of teaching and director of Fogelman Women in Leadership Programs at The University of Memphis Fogelman College of Business & Economics, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academia.
With over four and a half decades of experience, Dr. Tuberville has built a successful career in education, focusing on leadership and human resources. She is currently the chief executive officer at Out of the Box Leadership Solutions and has served as associate professor of teaching and director of Fogelman Women Leadership Programs at The University of Memphis since 2023. Her previous roles at the university include assistant professor of teaching and director of Fogelman Experiential Learning in 2022, faculty director of Fogelman Experiential Learning from 2021 to 2022, instructor and director of the Avron B. Fogelman Professional Development Center from 2012 to 2021, and assistant director of academic internships from 2011 to 2012. At Crichton College, she held several leadership positions, including associate dean of the business department from 2004 to 2008 and interim vice president of student development from 2003 to 2004. Earlier in her career, she held marketing and management roles at Smith & Nephew, John Malmo Advertising, The University of Memphis, Kelly Manufacturing, Varsity Spirit Fashions, Conwood Corporation, and MLGW.
Dr. Tuberville has contributed to the industry as a keynote presenter for the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants in 2023, and as a presenter at both the SHRM-Memphis Building Bridges Conference and the Tennessee SHRM State Council Conference in 2023. She is the author of “Your Leadership Journey: Driving Leadership Success Through Purpose and Passion” and “Career Development for Tomorrow’s Accounting Professionals,” and has contributed articles to professional publications. She has dedicated her time as president of SHRM-Memphis since 2003, is a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Phi Beta, and has served as a board member and honorary gala chair for the DeNeuville Learning Center for Women since 2018. Additionally, she is on the executive council of cityCurrent in Memphis, Tennessee, and teaches Sunday school at Christ Methodist Church.
Dr. Tuberville has received numerous prestigious awards throughout her career. She was honored with the HR Lifetime Achievement Award from SHRM-Memphis, the National Advisor Impact Award from the Society of Human Resource Management, and the FCBE Creative and Engaged Teaching Award from The University of Memphis Fogelman College of Business & Economics. In 2022, she received the UM Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award, and in 2021-2022, she was recognized as a George Johnson Teaching Fellow. In 2021, she also received the HR Educator-HR Excellence Award and the Faculty Team-HR Excellence Award from SHRM-Memphis. She was recognized for HR Professional Excellence by the Tennessee SHRM State Council in 2020 and was named HR Educator of the Year by the Memphis Business Journal in 2019. Earlier accolades include the Ron Hart Leadership Award, Faculty Service Award, and HR Champion award in 2018, as well as being named a SuperWomen in Business Honoree by the Memphis Business Journal in 2015.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Tuberville earned a Bachelor of Science in education from The University of Memphis in 1978, a Master of Science in management from The University of Memphis in 1982, and a Doctor of Education in human resource management and organizational leadership from Northcentral University in 2014. She completed the Women in Leadership program at Cornell University in 2024 and earned her senior certified professional designation from the Society for Human Resource Management in 2020. Additionally, she became a certification facilitator through the American Psychological Association in 2005, a certified Myers Briggs facilitator, and a certified master behavioral interviewer with Behavioral Technologies in 1995. She attributes her success to the strong support from her husband and her community, valuing their unwavering encouragement. In the coming years, she plans to further support the development of women leaders and guide students in navigating their career paths. Personally, she hopes to become more involved in the leadership development of her church and dreams of traveling to Switzerland and Alaska.
