Mr. Jackson is the director of music education, assistant band director and assistant professor of music at Jackson State University, where he is also an alumnus. He attended Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi from 2010 to 2014 while earning a Bachelor of Music Education. He subsequently obtained his Master of Music Education at the aforementioned university in 2016. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in music education at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
Formerly, Mr. Jackson was a music teacher with the Jackson Public School system from 2017 to 2018 and an administrative assistant at Jackson State University from 2014 to 2020. He continues to volunteer as a teacher by visiting schools around Jackson, offering free music lessons and mentoring students. He is also a volunteer for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Red Cross. He has been formerly honored as the Teacher of the Year by Jackson Public Schools.
Mr. Jackson attributes much of his success to his colleagues and mentors at Jackson State University for encouraging him to reach his goals in music education. He was inspired to pursue music at an early age by his mother, a musician and educator. He played in ensembles with his church and school in his youth, garnering several awards and a lifetime of experience playing at various festivals and competitions. Now, he focuses his passions on helping young musicians pursue their talents and career goals.
