Dr. Mwafaq Haji, MLT Program Director and Department Chair at Shelton State Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical sciences.

Dr. Haji pursued his education at the University of Duhok in Iraq, where he earned his master’s and doctorate degrees in medical biochemistry. After moving to the United States in 2014, he subsequently obtained a master’s degree in nanotechnology sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He graduated from Missouri Baptist University in 2021 after obtaining his doctorate in higher education leadership. Later that year, he became the director and department chair for the Medical Laboratory Technician Program at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. 

A current member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science, the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and the American Association of Bioanalysis, Dr. Haji cites his success as a result of his move to the United States. He attributes the county’s human rights, democracy, freedom and Constitutional value as being integral to his own career success. He made the decision to live in America after ISIS attacked in his home country, resulting in the loss of his school scholarship, his job and his medical laboratory. Dr. Haji is a contributor to the Nature Communications Journal and a member of the Geyer Springs First Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas.
