Title: Band Teacher
Company: George Washington Middle School
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii, United States

Darin M. Ujimori, Band Teacher at George Washington Middle School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music instruction.

Mr. Ujimori holds a professional diploma in secondary music education and a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Hawaii and has excelled as a band teacher with George Washington Middle School in Honolulu since 2013. He is responsible for band activities including the beginning, intermediate and advanced bands doing 10 to 20 performances per year. In 2018 and 2019, in what Mr. Ujimori considers to be his career highlight, George Washington captured the Western Division Band of Excellence in Dr. William P. Foster Project, which recognizes quality programs serving historically disadvantaged student populations.

Mr. Ujimori became involved in his profession because of his interest in music. He initially aspired to become a professional musician. However, due to the declining music industry in Hawaii, he decided to be involved in teaching instead. Volunteering after high school at several schools to help with their music programs is what kindled his passion for becoming a music educator. He attributes his success to his passion for music and teaching.

In the coming years, Mr. Ujimori hopes to continue his work as a music educator and also intends to start his own drum shop or a drum repair business.
